About this website ... |
Morecambe Grammar School had an Old Grammarians group until the 1960's but it was defunct by 1970.
Various individual pupils were in touch, but there was no organised means of communication. Sheila Crossley and Susan Jones organised a reunion in 2002, the year most of us were fifty, and around 30 people attended.
Although the internet was in its infancy, Friends Reunited and other Alumini websites had become popular and they provided a new medium for establishing contact with former pupils. At the same time, search engines were moving from a directory format to true search engines where keywords were used to find websites.
After the 2002 reunion, a free website was set up which was highly ranked by search engines and established contact with more pupils including many living outside the NWUK area. In 2011 there were discussions about another reunion to coincide with our 60th birthdays. At the same time the original website had been deleted by the host who had stopped offering free websites some years before. The material was updated and used to create the present website which is now well referenced by search engines and had 110,000 pages viewed in the first 12 months.
Around 40 people from our year attended the reunion in June 2012, although many of the contacts from 2002 had become obsolete and only 12 attended both reunions.
We currently have around 150 contact addresses most being email, and have added an automatic registration system here.
We have also created a a Facebook Page.
